n Saturday 4th July, 2015 at Aud. II, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife Osun State, an event which proved greatest Ife students to be people of proven intellectual took place; the official book launching of the book ‘The Ujuzi’.

This event was graced by; the #1 student of Obafemi Awolowo University in person of Omotayo Oluwadare Akande (TY), Great Ife Student Union president, Neonatar, and Deji Solanke (News Agency of Nigeria, NAN), Damilola Opaniran (Union of Campus Journalist, University of Ibadan) among other prominent persons present. Prof. Gbemisola Adeoti (Author of Naked Sole) and Dr. E.T.O Babalola were also expected at the event but were actually absent for reasons not announced to the audience.

This book, Ujuzi is a compilation of works of several talented young writers lead by Deji-Akin. It would not have been anything astounding if Deji-Akin is an English student but surprisingly, he is an undergraduate of Social Statistics and Demography department. This is the official release of a new anthology of poems and short stories.

Deji Solanke of News Agency of Nigeria, the first speaker stated, “Men will forget you; men will not forget whatever you write”. On a lighter note, he passed a constructive criticism on the book saying that the Story 10 on the content page of the book, “When Life is Young”.
Sani Michael (Mr. Lively), the Master of ceremony humourously livens up the event, as audience are so thrilled and happy. Tee Law, a campus celebrity artiste (as called by the MC), mount the podium to perform his song ‘Amin’. The Odun Ewi’s presentation was so magnificent that it promotes aesthetics of the African rich culture.
The Financial Secretary of the Great Ife Student Union Government pronounced that the student union launches the book, Ujuzi with an undisclosed amount of money.  Then other launchers follow suit.
A thunderous applause ensued as the MC called on the second Speaker in person of Omotayo (TY), Student Union President, who is admired by many Great Ife students for his outstanding oratory skills. The difference about his talks this time is that this is not like his talks in fight for justice and rights of Great Ife Student which is always characterized by a sense of vengeance for peace.
Omotayo speaks in a lighter atmosphere about ‘Writing’. TY explained that “Nothing great starts without writing”. He gave an illustration of how the Russian revolution and French revolution started by the use of written articles to stir up emotions of the people to fight for their right. He explained that one of the major problems of the student union body is problems of written history. He said the Hon. Seun 2.50 crisis would have been easily resolved if the said previously made parliamentary resolution had been well written.
He spoke of the decadence of interest in writing in our generation. He encouraged everyone to cultivate the act of writing. In his words, “Writing should be an act and not a profession”. He explains that universities do not offer admission into ‘Writing Department’ as writing need not be a course. He hammered the point that everyone can and should write about his or her area of interest.
Everyone must have left the event thinking TY will make a great motivational speaker someday in the near future.
