THE POWER OF YOUR VOTE A CATALYST FOR A STABLE AND UNITED NIGERIA

Recently, I found myself wedged in contemplation over which mobile phone to buy. There is a wide variety of brands I can actually choose from. I painstakingly made findings on the internet about each brand and also asked my trusted friends for advice on which of the phones they would rather recommend that I purchase. The question now is, do we really draw a comparative analysis of this type before casting our vote here in Nigeria? Straight from my heart I pull my pen seeing the need for our people to be oriented about the power of our vote. Our vote carries the key to unlock the door of utopia our nation longs for. It is a number one prerequisite for change in our nation. Nigeria is a blessed nation in terms of mineral resources, great intelligent people, good arable soil, portable water, beautiful topography and wonderful vegetation but what then is the problem of this nation which is crying out loud for a change? The major problem of this nation is one. Yes - only one! And that is the problem of leadership. I strongly opine that if the leadership problem of our nation can be duly fixed, all other problems would subsequently by solved thereby strengthening the unity in diversity of this nation. How then can the leadership problem of this nation be fixed? There are diverse ways the leadership of the nation can be changed among which is by vote of no confidence by the senate. Another way a leader can be changed include death either natural death or coup de tat as used in the military era. You and I cannot use any of the above-mentioned method to effect change of our leaders because; we are still students not parliamentarians in the senate house, we are not God hence cannot also cause our leaders to die naturally and lastly, we are not soldiers let alone been a bad soldier who kills in coup d’état. Also we are in the democratic era not military era. However, if we lack the potency to replace our bad leaders with good ones by the above means, does that render us completely helpless as touching who dictates the destiny of our nation by mantle of leadership of our dear nation? Of course not! We have just one tool we can use to transform our leadership from bad egocentric leaders who embezzles our money to good selfless leaders who would defend the rights of the masses compassionately. Yes! That is the power of our vote! Now that the power of your vote is understood, would you still misuse it by selling it or leave it idle by not voting? Would you sit back complaining of bad leadership when the power to effect positive change lies idle in your hands? No! Use the power of your vote and use it wisely. What saddens me the most is that bad politicians trick ignorant citizens into selling their vote for the irritating token of money they offer. So terrible! Why would any sane and oriented Nigerian sell his or her future? Selling your vote is tantamount to selling the future of your our dear nation, selling your children to unemployment, selling you right to talk, selling yourself to a subtle slavery where you never be justified to complain. You cannot eat your cake and have it. You cannot expect a man who paid you for your vote not to eat up your rights as a citizen when he gets to power. Do not trade your vote for money. Cast your vote on the assessment of how meticulous an aspirant is. Make findings about the true person of an aspirant before casting your vote for him or her. I gave an illustration of the measures I took to ensure I eventually purchase a good phone at the start of this write up. Same should be applied before casting our vote. Do not mind the sugar-coated tongues of our deceitful politicians who lure us to give them the power of our vote by making rivers of promises they have no intention of fulfilling. Guide your vote with all diligence. It is your power. Your vote is your only tool to ensure the unity and stability of our dear nation, Nigeria. Remember, selling your vote is like selling yourself as slave to corrupt leaders thereby frustrating the patriotism of well-meaning Nigerians who aspires for the leadership mantle to truly effect positive change in our dear nation. Vote for truth. Vote for change. Vote without fear. Vote for democracy. Vote according to you assessment of the candidate. Vote in accordance to your true conscience.
